Seoyeon Jang on the Hidden Panic Behind Her Calm Beef Performance

Seoyeon Jang on the Hidden Panic Behind Her Calm Beef Performance

One of the most impressive things about Seoyeon Jang’s performance as Eunice in Beef Season 2 is how calm and controlled it feels. Even in moments of tension, Eunice rarely appears rattled. But according to Seoyeon herself, that composure is very different from what’s happening internally before the cameras start rolling.

In her conversation on Once and Always a Fanboy, Seoyeon revealed that nerves are still a major part of her process, even now.

“In my trailer, I’m panicking and frantically going through my lines,” she admitted. “Then I get the knock that I have to go on set and I’m like nothing happened.”

“I don’t think anyone would really know how much panic is involved in the process,” she said.

That also is connected to one of the biggest lessons she has learned over the course of her acting career: how to actually listen during a scene.

When reflecting on her earliest roles, Seoyeon admitted that nerves used to consume so much of her attention that she sometimes struggled to fully hear what the other actor was saying.

“I remember on the first drama that I did, I had no idea what the other person just said,” she shared. “I was so busy in my head just going through my lines so I wouldn’t make a mistake.”

Over time, that changed. Seoyeon explained that one of the biggest developments in her acting has been learning to become more aware of everything happening around her during a scene, rather than staying trapped in her own head.

She even laughed at how fundamental that sounds now, calling it “really the basic of acting,” but acknowledged that it was something she genuinely had to grow into through experience.

Rather than presenting herself as someone who has figured everything out, she speaks like an artist who is still discovering new ways to grow, whether that means becoming more present in a scene, embracing uncertainty, or learning how to quiet the noise in her own head long enough to truly connect with the people around her.
