Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Relaunch Brings Back the Original Team as Adults

A new era of Power Rangers is on the way, and it’s bringing the original team back in a way fans haven’t quite seen before. BOOM! Studios is relaunching Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers! with writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Andrew Lee Griffith, this time picking up 10 years after the Rangers went their separate ways. Jason is now a martial arts instructor, Zack works as a public defender, Trini has stepped into diplomacy, and Billy stayed behind to help train future Rangers. Kimberly’s story hits a little differently, as her gymnastics career starts to slow down while everyone else around her is just getting started in life.

Of course, they don’t stay apart for long. Billy brings the team back together to face a new threat: Rita Rabiosa. While she may feel familiar, she is not a new version of Rita Repulsa. In this timeline, the original Rita has already become the Mystic Mother, while Rabiosa is a separate, more ruthless villain with her own agenda. There’s also a big question mark around Tommy, who was supposed to return with the group but ends up missing, setting up a mystery that will carry into future stories.

It’s also a cool full-circle moment for the franchise in comics. Original Pink Ranger Amy Jo Johnson has already stepped into this world as a writer, creating her own Power Rangers comic with BOOM! Studios with Mighty Morphin Power Ranger: The Return. Now, with this relaunch, the series continues to grow in a way that feels both familiar and new.
