Good Kid Says "Can We Hang Out Sometime?" Is Their Most Human Album Yet

With the release of Can We Hang Out Sometime?, Good Kid wanted to explore a more honest and less polished direction for their music. While their earlier EPs featured tight arrangements and energetic production, the band shared that this album gave them the chance to focus more on emotion and natural performances. Instead of trying to perfect every small detail, they allowed the songs to develop in a more relaxed and open way.
“I think there’s a rawness to the album… this album was really cathartic,” said David Wood (Guitarist). “It was an experience of letting go more than anything and allowing ourselves to be musicians in a room.” This approach allowed the band to focus on how the songs felt rather than how perfectly everything was structured. Sometimes leaving small imperfections in a recording can make a performance feel more real, and the band wanted listeners to feel that honesty when hearing the album.
Jacob Tsafatinos (Guitarist) also talked about how important it was for the music to feel human, especially at a time when technology is becoming more present in creative work. “I don’t think you can listen to this record and not feel that rawness and that emotion," he said. "A robot definitely did not make this album,” joked David. The band wanted the album to reflect real experiences and genuine emotions, rather than sounding overly processed or mechanical.
For listeners, this shift in approach may reveal a different side of Good Kid. The album shows a willingness to take creative risks and explore new directions, even if that means stepping outside their usual sound. By allowing themselves more freedom in the studio, the band created a record that feels personal and reflective of where they are now as artists. This balance between structure and spontaneity gives the album a sense of growth while still keeping the energetic style fans enjoy.
